Governor Rick Snyder to Showcase Auto Industry During Keynote at 2014 MICHauto Summit, Sept. 23

The automotive industry is helping to drive Michigan’s economic resurgence and is the perfect foundation to drive the state’s future growth. Governor Rick Snyder will highlight the state’s efforts to keep Michigan the global center of the automotive industry at the 2014 MICHauto Summit on September 23 at COBO Center in Detroit.

Under the Governor’s administration, Michigan has led the nation in recovering from the Great Recession. Michigan is number one in manufacturing job growth and the creation of 275,000 private sector jobs has brought down the state’s unemployment rate 4 percentage points, its lowest since 2008.

Programming for the daylong event will feature Michigan’s Automotive Industry: Concept to Consumer and focus on the outlook on design, engineering, manufacturing and all things automotive. View the updated agenda or register today.

Candidate Spotlight: Rep. Andrea LaFontaine (R-Columbus Twp.), District 32

As a representative of portions of Macomb and St. Clair counties, State Representative Andrea LaFontaine (R-Columbus Twp.) understands the importance of a strong relationship between Detroit and the rest of the state. Her leadership on Detroit and other key issues impacting the regional economy earn her the endorsement of the Chamber’s Political Action Committee Board.

Rep. Lafontaine demonstrated her commitment to the region through her approval of the Detroit bankruptcy settlement legislation in the Grand Bargain. In addition, Rep. LaFontaine has fought to protect the Great Lakes as chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, while resisting constraints to businesses that provide over 500,000 jobs across the state.

The Chamber supports pragmatic, pro-economic growth candidates that advance Michigan’s reinvention. For a full list of Chamber-endorsed candidates, click here.
