Governor, Chamber Make Push for ‘Yes’ Vote to Fix Michigan’s Roads

With the May 5 election rapidly approaching, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Vice President of Government Relations Brad Williams joined Gov. Rick Snyder and other Proposal 1 supporters in an effort to help spread the word about the importance of voting “yes” to fix Michigan’s roads.

Last week, Williams joined the Governor, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Dearborn MayorJack O’Reilly, Walbridge CEO and Chairman John Rakolta Jr., and other supporters of Proposal 1 as part of the Safe Roads Yes! Coalition event in Dearborn.

Williams helped deliver the message that safe and effective roads are critical to Michigan’s competitiveness and that Michigan’s crumbling transportation infrastructure is emerging as a significant deterrent in the Chamber’s efforts to attract domestic and foreign investment while also negatively impacting commerce across the state.

“Good roads, safe roads aren’t luxury items. They’re an absolute necessity in today’s competitive global economic environment,” Williams said, indicating that Michigan’s roadways were once an asset in business attraction efforts to the state, but now are a deterrent.

In addition to several interviews with the media last week, the Chamber also released a toolkit for its members to distribute to educate their employees and stakeholders about the importance of voting “yes” on Proposal 1. Click here to access the toolkit.

Frank Venegas Jr. Shares Why Community Outreach is Integral to Business Success at Inside the CEO Mind

For Ideal Group CEO and Chamber Board member Frank Venegas Jr., community involvement is more than public relations, it’s an integral facet of both his life and business. Ideal Group began after Venegas sold a 1979 Cadillac he had won in a competition and used the money to start his business. Now, revenue for the company not only exceeds $200 million, but Venegas stands out as a regional business leader and pillar in the community, providing jobs to local residents, supporting nearby Detroit Cristo Rey High School and helping transform a once abandoned Southwest Detroit parking lot into an urban garden.

Venegas was recently recognized as a social justice champion through Dartmouth College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Award. To learn more about Ideal Group, or Venegas’ one-of-a-kind success story, visit http://www.weareideal.com/.
