Brenda LawrenceU.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence, D-Southfield, serves Michigan’s 14th District in the House of Representatives. The district includes parts of Detroit and 17 cities in Wayne and Oakland counties. She was re-elected in November 2016 and serves as a senior whip, vice chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, and secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus. She is also a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Lawrence previously served as the first African-American female mayor of the city of Southfield and was a member of the Southfield City Council, where she was elected president in 1999. She also served on the Southfield Public School Board of Education as president, vice president and secretary.
