Business In Current Event
The increasing use of information technology to share information and solicit business has bolstered our economy and in turn brought new frustration on top of direct mailing and telemarketing efforts. Specifically, direct mail through electronic transmission, also known as SPAM, has reached significant levels. Businesses in virtually every industry have identified this form of direct mail as a problem that consumes employee time and clogs company networks. In response to this frustration, legislation has been suggested in many states and at the federal level. Before any regulatory method is settled in a majority of states or at the federal level, basic principles for crafting legislation must be determined. If these principles are not in place, legislation will be ineffective and could cause additional legal backlogs.
