Detroit Board Leadership Program

The Time is Now to Make a Difference in Education

The Detroit Regional Chamber created the Detroit Board Leadership Program to seek out qualified board candidates and provide a realistic overview of what it means to serve on a charter school board. For qualified candidates interested in seriously pursuing a board position, the Leadership Program will provide an orientation on PSA school governance and related issues and assistance in placement on board that matches your skill sets.

In public education, exceptional leadership is required to create the environment in which students and teachers can succeed. Effective leaders keep student needs at the center of decision-making and problem solving, and embrace actions that put student achievement first. Strong leaders inspire communities and have the courage and determination to make decisions that improve outcomes for all students.

While Public School Academies (PSA) often referred to as “charter schools” and independent school boards are often made up of dedicated business, civic and community leaders, many board members have not been trained or are not equipped to provide the necessary support the school requires. Given the complexity of the K-12 education environment, this lack of preparation can hinder the success of quality board members.
