  2. Four VIP senior class screenings sponsored by Emagine Events for the other winning high schools according to the categories listed below.

Contest Winners

The FAFSA completion scores of participating schools will be calculated using U.S. Department of Education FAFSA submission data as a percentage of the Class of 2018 enrollment, as reported by the schools. Using this data, winners will be selected by the Detroit Drives Degrees Working Group and Race to the FAFSA Line Action Team. No purchase by either students or schools is necessary or required to win any of the prizes.

EXACTLY FIVE SCHOOLS WILL BE SELECTED FROM AWARD CATEGORIES BELOW

  1. Grand Prize:The one school which improves its FAFSA completion rate the most compared to last year.
  2. VIP Movie Screenings: Excluding the Grand Prize winner, exactly two schools with the most improved FAFSA completion rates will be awarded movie screenings. The prizes in this category will be allocated according to school size: large campuses (senior enrollment of over 300 students); medium campuses (senior enrollment between 100-299); and small campuses (senior enrollment of 99 or below), taking into account the size of the Grand Prize winning school to ensure each size subgroup receives exactly one prize.
    1. The school which achieves the highest overall FAFSA completion rate in the region (1 school total regardless of school size);
    2. The school that develops the most innovative strategy for promoting FAFSA completion (1 school total regardless of school size).
    3. All schools participating in the Race to the FAFSA Line Challenge are eligible to win the “most innovative strategy” prize. The criteria for this prize includes: originality of strategy, replicability to other contexts and positive impact on improving the FAFSA competition rate. Qualified members from the Detroit Drives Degrees College Working Group and the Race to the FAFSA Line Action Team will serve as judges in awarding this prize.

Approximate Value of the Prize

The grand prize and movie screenings provided to winners are valued at approximately $24,000 total and are not convertible to cash prizes. To attend screening, each student must provide verification that she/he submitted financial aid form before February 28, 2018.
