If you are thinking about a career in manufacturing, you will find that many of the community colleges in the Detroit Region offer just the program for you. Programs available include:Manufacturing Technology
The manufacturing technology program is designed to provide students with an overview of the manufacturing field with specialties in machine tool and numerical control. Students can apply for entry-level positions in several areas such as quality improvement, production control, machining, programming, design engineering, marketing and other related manufacturing jobs.
Manufacturing Productivity Systems
Through hands-on experience, the student acquires skills that are essential In industrial processes, blueprint reading, layout and inspection, numerical control prototype testing, and developing and testing automated, servomechanical, and other mechanical systems. Most students work part time in their fields of endeavor while completing their degree requirements.
Manufacturing Trades
The Associate in Applied Science degree in Manufacturing Trades program is designed for industrial apprentices or other skilled trades persons who have completed or are in the last semester of related instruction requirements for journeyperson certification or the equivalent. Students may apply the credits earned in their trade programs toward the 60 credit hours required for the degree.
Introduction to Automated Manufacturing
This is a survey course for the world of robots. Included will be automation safety, justification, design and classification, applications, end-of-arm tooling, power sources, future trends and societal impact. Laboratory experiences will include robot programming and operation through both teach pendants and microcomputers. Basic configurations with programmable controllers will be included, with an abbreviated introduction to fluid power and ladder logic.

The Detroit region's strong manufacturing base necessitates the needs for many different vocational and techical education programs. There are more than 60 vocational training providers in the region, a few are provided below. They provide training from casino dealers to consturction to advanced manufacturing.
