Manufacturing in the “D”

Skilled trades jobs are booming in the Detroit region and play an important role in Michigan’s economic recovery. From building and maintaining homes, to manufacturing and electrical development, skilled trades workers touch almost every aspect of our lives.

This year in Southeast Michigan alone, overall demand reached 10,639 openings in the second quarter for skill trades and technicians as well as engineers and design talent. Manufacturing inspectors and testers are one of the top open positions in Michigan, with 11,578 new job postings in 2013, and 127,700 projected job openings through 2022.

The manufacturing industry has recognized a great need for the development of a talent pipeline through training and apprenticeship programs, notably the Michigan Advanced Technician Training Program. The program combines theory, practice and work to train a globally competitive workforce. For more information on career pathways in manufacturing visit http://win-semich.org/youth.
