Government Relations 2012 Goals
The Detroit Regional Chamber’s government relations team will be focused on the following public policy goals for 2012.
  • Approval and construction of the New International Trade Crossing and implementation of projects that will make Detroit and surrounding areas a global logistics hub.
  • Repeal of the Personal Property Tax which serves as a disincentive to investment, particularly for manufacturing and other high-wage industries.
  • Increased investment in Michigan’s vital transportation system to ensure that good roads stay good and bad roads get better.
  • Implementation of a system of regional transit that recognizes the importance of moving individuals along vital corridors in our region.
  • Reform of Public Act 350, which creates a level playing field for all competitors in the health insurance marketplace.
  • Comprehensive review and implementation of quality standards for all schools regardless of governing structure.
  • Continued structural reform that will enhance Michigan’s already improved financial picture, including retirement reform for public school employees, reduced spending the Michigan Department of Corrections and local government consolidation.
