Walsh Named Gold-Level Status Veteran-Friendly School

TROY, Mich., Dec. 14, 2018 – Walsh has been recognized by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency for its commitment to helping student veterans succeed in college.

This is the eighth consecutive year that Walsh has been named a Veteran-Friendly School and the third consecutive year that the college has received Gold-level status — the agency’s highest distinction.

“Veterans represent an important talent pool for our state,” said Dr. Michael Rinkus, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Walsh and U.S. Army veteran. “About 7.5 percent of Michigan adults are military veterans, according to the last U.S. Census. Our goal at Walsh is to provide personal, dedicated support to veterans so they have a clear pathway from education to successful careers.”

Walsh is committed to helping veterans transition from military service to a college degree to successful career. The college waives the application fee for veterans and offers personalized assistance to help with education benefits. Walsh also has licensed professional counselors on staff to assist during the transition process.

“The hard work and sacrifice you put in for this country make you incredibly deserving of an education,” said Kyle Richardson, a 2017 Walsh accounting alumnus who served in the military. “Many veterans believe there is not enough time, they have to go back to work full-time after starting a life based on full-time military pay, or they do not know how to utilize their benefits. Walsh helps you with all these areas to ensure you are set up for success.”

While at Walsh, veterans have access to veteran-specific scholarships, extended payment due dates for GI Bill® users and personalized help with education benefits. Walsh’s Troy location also has a dedicated space for veterans.

“Walsh made me feel like I was more than just ‘another student,’ Richardson said. “Since I served four years in the military, I was older than most college students. I knew I wanted a college program that I could finish efficiently, and Walsh’s four-semester school year made this a reality.”

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency recognizes academic institutions of higher learning committed to supporting the needs of student veterans and dependents. The program awards Gold-level, Silver-level or Bronze-level status to institutions that offer veteran-centric services and programs.

NTH Consultants, Ltd. (NTH) today announced that its work on the redevelopment of Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan has been recognized with the ACEC/Michigan’s highest honor, the Eminent Conceptor Award for Engineering, presented during the recent ACEC/Michigan’s 50th Anniversary Awards Gala.

ACEC/Michigan recognizes special engineering and surveying accomplishments through its annual Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards. The statewide competition identifies engineering achievements that demonstrate a high degree of client satisfaction through innovative, cost-effective solutions.

NTH received its ACEC award for the Cobo Arena Expansion Project that began in 2010 when the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority (DRCFA) assumed the ambitious transformation of the existing Cobo Arena facility. The signature element in the transformation was the construction of a new three-story atrium opening to the Detroit River and the conversion of Cobo Arena into a glass-enclosed banquet and event space. DRCFA chose NTH for the planning, work sequencing, and evaluation of structural integrity.

During the redevelopment of Cobo Arena, NTH utilized the shell-like geometry of the original structure, performed detailed analyses for each stage of demolition and reconstruction, and worked with the contractors, Homrich, Inc. and Midwest Steel, Inc., to safely sequence the work, thereby eliminating the need for internal temporary bracing. This transformation of an underutilized component of Detroit’s past stands as a testament to the fortitude of its people, the community, and the professionals dedicated to its rebirth.

ACEC also recognized NTH with a 2015 Merit Award for its work in averting future sinkholes during its work on the Oakland Macomb Interceptor Drain Project.

Richard Goetz Named To BTI Client Service All-Stars

RICHARD GOETZ NAMED TO BTI CLIENT SERVICE ALL-STARS

Detroit –February 12, 2015 – Richard C. Goetz, Senior Counsel and Leader of Dykema’s International Practice Group, has been named a 2015 BTI Client Service All-Star, an honor accorded to just 354 attorneys. He received this recognition from leading corporate counsel and other legal decision-makers for his performance and client service.

In its analysis of this year’s Client Service All-Star list, BTI identifies six factors as key drivers to being viewed by clients as a top-tier provider of client service:

1. Client Focus
2. Innovative Thought Leader
3. Exceptional Understanding of the Client’s Business
4. Legal Skills
5. Outsized Value
6. Outstanding Results

The Client Service All-Star designation emerges from BTI Consulting Group’s annual survey of corporate counsel at the world’s largest organizations. This year’s survey was based on in-depth interviews with more than 300 corporate counsel from Global 500, Fortune 1000 and top-spending organizations. Almost half of survey participants are Chief Legal Officers and General Counsel; the remainder are direct reports to General Counsel.

Respondents were asked to identify—unprompted—those attorneys who drive superior client relationships. The quality and depth of those replies determined which lawyers earned Client Service All-Star status.

The recognition by BTI is a reflection of the more than 40 years of experience focusing on international law that Goetz provides to clients in a broad range of foreign and inbound investment joint venture, distribution, trade and other commercial matters. He regularly counsels clients regarding compliance with FCPA, Antiboycott, economic sanctions, export controls and other U.S. laws governing individuals and entities doing business abroad.

Goetz earned a J.D. from the University of Illinois and a B.A. from Southern Illinois University.
