Attorney Kelly Martorano Elected as Chair of the State Bar of Michigan’s Environmental Law Section

TROY, Mich., October 1, 2018 – Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Attorney Kelly Martorano has been elected as Chair of the State Bar of Michigan’s Environmental Law Section. Her selection took place during the Annual Meeting on September 27, 2018.

The State Bar of Michigan’s Environmental Law Section examines proposed legislation and regulations concerning natural resources and environmental law. The chair is responsible for leading the section’s Executive Council and promoting the education of members of the Bar and the general public in those areas pertaining to natural resources and environmental law. This is accomplished through the sponsoring of webinars and conferences as well as the publication of the Michigan Environmental Law Journal.

Kelly Martorano is Of Counsel in the firm’s Troy office. Through her practice, she assists clients such as, large and small companies, financial institutions, and municipalities with evaluating and navigating various transactional and regulatory environmental issues. In addition, she has prepared and negotiated purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, and various real estate documents related to the acquisition, disposition, leasing, construction and financing of medical office building projects in Michigan.

Ms. Martorano is recognized as a leader in her field by Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers “Rising Stars”. Business Immigration Attorney Elissa Noujaim Pinto Joins Dickinson Wright’s Troy Office

Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Attorney Elissa Noujaim Pinto has joined the firm’s Troy office as Of Counsel.

Over the last seventeen years, Ms. Pinto has focused her immigration practice on business immigration, and she has gained extensive experience representing local, national and international companies in obtaining authorization for foreign national employees to work temporarily and permanently in the United States, through various work-authorized visa classifications and employment-based permanent residence processes.

Ms. Pinto regularly provides comprehensive guidance to business clients with respect to their foreign national workforce, including short and long-term strategy and planning, immigration compliance as well as immigration-related issues that arise on a daily basis. She has assisted clients with internal audits and provides useful and practical training on how to conduct self-audits to ensure compliance with ever-evolving and complex immigration laws and policies. Ms. Pinto has also advised on the drafting and establishment of immigration policies and practices for companies, in conjunction with human resources personnel and management input. She regularly provides training that is tailored to company workforce and foreign employment policies and practices, including strategy and best-practice reviews to streamline the immigration process for human resources staff, management, and their foreign national employees.

This year, Ms. Pinto has given several presentations in Portuguese in various cities in Brazil, including a seminar hosted by the Brazilian American Chamber (AmCham Brasil) on the U.S. business immigration process, and a series of seminars in collaboration with Baker Tilly on the EB-5 Investor Greencard process. This fall she is collaborating with Baker Tilly on another series of seminars on the EB-5 program, to be presented in Portuguese in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association’s International Law Section, and the State Bar of Michigan’s International Law Section. She is recognized as a leader in her field by Best Lawyers in America, Michigan Super Lawyers “Rising Stars”, and was featured in the “2018 Powered by Women” section in DBusiness.

Dickinson Wright Attorney Suzanne Sukkar Re-Appointed to the State of Michigan’s Middle-Eastern American Affairs Commission

Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Attorney Suzanne Sukkar has been re-appointed to the State of Michigan’s Middle-Eastern American Affairs Commission by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. Her term will expire in 2022.

The Middle-Eastern American Affairs Commission is comprised of 15 members whose directive is to monitor, evaluate and provide recommendations to the Governor and the state’s Department of Civil Rights regarding issues facing the Middle-Eastern American Community. They will also work to enhance economic opportunity, prevent discrimination, and spread awareness of Middle-Eastern American culture.

Suzanne Sukkar is a U.S. Business Immigration Attorney at the law firm of Dickinson Wright PLLC based in its Ann Arbor, Michigan office. Attorney Adam Grant Joins Dickinson Wright PLLC

Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce that Attorney Adam D. Grant has joined the firm’s Detroit office as Of Counsel.

Mr. Grant focuses his practice in the areas of commercial and business litigation, financial services litigation, and tax litigation. He has represented banks, businesses, and mortgage lenders/servicers in litigated matters before state and federal courts in Michigan and Illinois. He also has extensive experience representing broker/dealers in actions before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and in representing manufacturers in products liability matters. Mr. Grant’s tax litigation experience includes achieving a unanimous victory on behalf of Detroit Public Schools in the Michigan Supreme Court on a contested tax issue (Briggs Tax Services v. Detroit Public Schools, 485 Mich. 69 (2010)).

Mr. Grant is admitted to practice in Michigan, Illinois, and the District of Columbia, and is a member of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Holocaust Memorial Center of Metropolitan Detroit, where he serves on the Center’s Executive Committee. Mr. Angelocci also provides analysis and counseling related to patent enforcement including clearance opinions, freedom to operate opinions, as well as non-infringement and invalidity opinions. His primary focus is protecting his clients’ inventive products, systems, and processes to improve commercial value and product investment in innovation. Dickinson Wright PLLC is pleased to announce the appointment of the following practice division directors:

Harlan W. Robins, a member in the firm’s Columbus office, has been appointed director of the Transactions Division. The Transactions Division is comprised of six sub-groups: Real Estate, Real Estate Finance, Banking, Corporate/M&A, Environmental and Municipal Finance, representing approximately 140 attorneys across the firm. Personally, Mr. Robins focuses his practice on real estate finance, development & land use, acquisitions & dispositions, and banking & financial services. He represents lenders in complex, multi-state workouts, deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure and foreclosure of real estate-secured loans, loan modifications and loan origination for permanent and construction financings. Mr. Robins received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from Emory University School of Law.

Thomas G. McNeill, a member in the firm’s Detroit office, has been appointed director of the Litigation Division. With more than 30 years of trial, litigation and arbitration experience, he focuses his practice on middle market business cases, automotive supply disputes and complex financial litigation, including in the areas of securities, antitrust, banking, private equity, mergers and acquisitions and financial statement accounting. Mr. McNeill received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from the University of Virginia.

Philip E. Rettig, a member in the firm’s Troy office, has been appointed director of the Intellectual Property Division. He focuses his practice on all aspects of patent, trademark, trade secret and licensing matters as well as counseling clients in strategic portfolio management. He concentrates his practice on obtaining and enforcing patents, trademarks and copyrights for clients in various fields, with a particular emphasis in the automotive industry. Mr. Rettig received his B.S.M.E. from Kettering University and his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law.

Cynthia A. Moore, a member in the firm’s Troy office, has been appointed director of the Regulatory-Administration Division. She is a national expert on fringe benefit plans and is counsel to numerous plan sponsors in the design and administration of qualified retirement plans and welfare benefit plans. She also counsels companies and compensation committees on the tax, ERISA, and securities law aspects of executive compensation programs, such as supplemental executive retirement plans, stock option plans, restricted stock plans, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. Ms. Moore received her B.A. from Alma College and her J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.

Stephen E. Richman, a member in the firm’s Phoenix office, has been appointed director of the Industry Practices Division. He focuses his practice in all phases of construction law, both commercial and residential. He frequently drafts and negotiates construction contracts for owners and general contractors as well as routinely handles commercial construction disputes involving improper design, delays, loss of productivity, and change orders. Mr. Richman received his J.D. from the University of California Hastings College of Law.
