Butzel Long Adds Attorney Specializing in Commercial and Business Tort Litigation

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Butzel Long has added associate attorney Javon David to the firm. She concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial litigation and business tort litigation. David has extensive litigation experience, successfully handling matters from the onset of suit through trial.

She also has extensive experience representing corporations and individuals in a wide variety of negligence, general liability, insurance coverage, premises liability, and personal injury disputes.
While in law school, she was a Law Review Editor, the Executive Director of the Moot Court Board of Advocates, and a faculty research assistant. She competed in national Moot Court competitions and was inducted into the Order of Barristers for Excellence in Writing and Advocacy. David received numerous academic awards in law school. She was a member of the Dean’s Honor Society; received a Dean’s Scholarship and Presidential Scholarship; and, earned Book Awards for the highest grade in International Law, Worker’s Compensation Law, and Business Franchising Law.

David is admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. She also is a certified mediator through the American Bar Association. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, with concentrations in History, Political Science, and Psychology. She received a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2013 and graduated with honors.

She has been named to the list of Michigan Rising Stars in Super Lawyers magazine for 2017, 2018, and 2019. David also was named among Michigan’s Top Women Lawyers from 2017-2019.

Butzel Long adds attorney specializing in appellate and commercial litigation; Daniel J. McCarthy joins firm as Shareholder

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Attorney Daniel J. McCarthy has joined Butzel Long as a Shareholder in the firm’s Bloomfield Hills office. He concentrates his practice in appellate and commercial litigation for both state and federal courts.

McCarthy is highly skilled and sought after for appellate litigation, as well as arbitration matters. A prolific writer, McCarthy has authored thousands of legal briefs during his career and he has garnered many victories in the appellate and circuit courts, as well as multiple arbitration awards in favor of his clients. His cumulative career is a testament to his unyielding dedication to providing every client with the most efficient and effective advocacy possible.

He served as a law clerk intern for the Honorable Richard F. Suhrheinrich, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He later served as a law clerk for the Honorable Marilyn J. Kelly, Justice, Michigan Supreme Court, 1999 to 2000, and then in 2000 he served as a pre-hearing attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals.

In addition to his career as an experienced and trusted litigator, McCarthy also served as an adjunct professor at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

In 2010, McCarthy was appointed to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions, a position he held through 2018.
