Walsh College Names Sanderson to Chair Accounting, Business Law, and Taxation Department

Jennifer C. Sanderson of Macomb, Mich., a 25-year accounting professional and a faculty member at Walsh College since 2006, has been named chair, Accounting, Business Law, and Taxation (ABLT) Department, at the College. Her appointment is effective with the start of the 2014-15 academic year.

A former tax principal at Rehmann, Sanderson replaces Daniel S. Hoops, who resigned the post to concentrate more fully on his faculty duties as an associate professor at Walsh. Hoops has been engaged in the practice of law and business consulting since 1995 and joined Walsh in 2008.

“Dan has done a tremendous job as chair and his dedication to Walsh and its students is boundless,” said Dr. David Shields, executive vice president and chief academic officer. “We look forward to his continuing contributions and energy as a faculty colleague.”

He added, “We’re fortunate to have Jennifer ready to step into the important role as ABLT chair. Her wealth of professional and teaching experience aligns perfectly with Walsh’s great reputation for practical business education and academic rigor.”

Sanderson earned her bachelor of business administration in accounting from Western Michigan University in 1988 and an master of science in taxation from American University in 1996. Her professional expertise includes manufacturing, leasing, real estate, and tax consulting.

Sanderson is a member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Hoops received a BMA degree with a major in trumpet performance from the University of Michigan in 1991. He earned a J.D. degree cum laude from the Michigan State University School of Law (formerly Detroit College of Law) in 1994, and an LL.M. in estate planning from the University of Miami School of Law in 1995. His professional expertise includes tax law, estate planning, ethics, and business consulting.
