In the final semester of every high school student’s senior year comes the pressing responsibility to make a selection for post-secondary plans, and to quickly learn how to navigate the systems and expectations that come with matriculation.

The Accounting Aid Society is partnering with select Detroit high schools and local college access networks to assist students and families in completing their taxes as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

2015 is here! The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available online and now is the perfect time to have that conversation about funding for college with your graduating seniors.

STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) lately seems to be the word on everyone’s lips. These career quick facts for Southeast Michigan explain why STEM education is important to our state:

Adriene Dixon, a senior at Denby High School, will graduate in June and plans to attend Macomb Community College to study pediatric nursing. Dixon said she will never forget the memorable experience she had at Denby and will always fondly remember homecoming events, class trips and relationships she’s developed with her teachers and counselors.

Despite being a solid student, Dylan Powell was unsure what he wanted to do following his graduation from Plymouth Educational Center Preparatory High School in Detroit last spring. “I was interested in college but really thought the cost was going to be a problem,” he said.

The Detroit Scholarship Fund (DSF) team invites local high schools and/or organizations to participate in the 2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Completion Campaign. During the past two years, Detroit successfully reached and maintained a 70 percent citywide FAFSA completion rate. This year’s campaign goal is 80 percent citywide by July 1.
