DPS Emergency Manager Roy Roberts Speaks to LD Class XXXIV; Last Chance to Nominate a LeaderDetroit Public Schools (DPS) Emergency Manager Roy Roberts spoke to the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit class XXXIV last Thursday during a class session on transformational leadership at El Zocalo in Southwest Detroit. Roberts’ message centered on staying focused when confronting leadership challenges and the importance of being surrounded by great people. He also described the importance of allowing those people to grow and expand their own skills. Robert’s also discussed his vision for changing the perception of DPS, which he said requires making changes that are deep enough and long enough for people to begin to believe in the school system again.

Chamber’s Denim for Dollars Program to United Sisters of Charity Soup Kitchen The Detroit Regional Chamber staff recently donated $960 to the United Sisters of Charity Soup Kitchen as part of its Denim for Dollars Program. The United Sisters of Charity aims to inspire those faced with insurmountable challenges to persevere. The Chamber started Denim for Dollars in 2008 as a program allowing Chamber employees to wear denim on Fridays for a $5 charitable donation. Since its inception, the Chamber team has raised more than $10,000 for many local community-based organizations like Gleaners Community Food Bank, the Humane Society and the American Red Cross.
