A Message from Chamber Economic Development Leadership Council Chair, Tricia Keith

Many of us, first-time attendees and seasoned veterans alike, will soon be heading to the Mackinac Policy Conference, the annual event that signals the end of winter and the presentation of an agenda for Michigan’s future.

The agenda is particularly full this year. The Conference themes of entrepreneurship, STEM education and impact embrace all of the economic challenges and opportunities that our state faces. For proof, look no further than Michigan’s policy agenda. Several action items – such as regional infrastructure for the New International Trade Crossing, increased entrepreneurial funding, and road improvement – are indisputably intended to improve Michigan’s economic competitiveness.

All of this validates the good work that the Chamber’s Economic Development team has done this year. The MICHauto program has gained great traction, successfully hosting its inaugural automotive summit and supporting and promoting Michigan’s first statewide auto strategy. The Business Attraction team continued to spread the word about the favorable climate for capital and talent in Southeast Michigan. The Chamber even launched its first entrepreneurship program, Startgrid, at the Detroit Policy Conference.

With an appreciation for the efforts of the Chamber’s Economic Development team to move the economic needle in Southeast Michigan, let the conversations begin!
