Apprenticeship Best Practices Spotlight: Workforce Intelligence Network

October 16, 2025

The Detroit Regional Chamber is a co-convener of the Michigan Apprentice Network, which aims to create 500 professional apprenticeships in five years. As part of this work, the Chamber spotlights best practices and other agencies creating momentum in the apprenticeship space. One organization making an impact is the Workforce Intelligence Network (WIN). Read more about its work with apprenticeships below.

WIN brings together nine community colleges and seven Michigan Works! agencies to help facilitate impactful apprenticeship work United by a shared commitment to workforce development, these organizations combine their expertise to create lifelong career pathways, deliver targeted training for business and industry, and offer a range of degrees, certificates, and stackable credentials that lead directly to employment. Through this collaboration, they also provide robust support for apprenticeships, helping individuals and local businesses thrive in a competitive job market.

One way WIN supports this is by facilitating the Advance Michigan Center for Apprenticeship Innovation (AMCAI). In 2020, WIN received a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to increase apprenticeships for advanced manufacturing in Southeast Michigan. AMCAI helps employers start their own apprenticeship programs and acts as an intermediary sponsor for these programs. Additionally, it helps employers manage paperwork, compliance issues, and spread awareness to their networks of students looking for registered apprenticeships.

WIN also created the Michigan Alliance for Greater Mobility Advancement (MAGMA) in response to rapid growth in the renewable energy sector. The goal of MAGMA is to prepare individuals for emerging technologies in autonomous, electric, alternative fuel, and other advanced vehicle technologies through training.

Jumpstarting a registered apprenticeship can develop a skilled workforce, reduce turnover, build a long-term talent pipeline, and allow for a stronger future.

“Apprenticeships foster an immediate bond of loyalty between employees and employers, creating a foundation of trust and growth from day one,” said Jessican Keenan, Project Manager for the Workforce Intelligence Network. “Registered apprenticeships empower employers to shape their future workforce by providing high-quality career pathways aligned with the needs of growing and emerging industries.”
