Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr to Discuss Detroit Progression in Mackinac Policy Conference Keynote, May 30

Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr has been added to the 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference ticket, as he will talk about Detroit’s progression through bankruptcy on Friday, May 30 at Grand Hotel. The Conference will highlight the pillars of entrepreneurship, education and impact.

Orr will discuss the headway that has been made in Detroit since his appointment in March 2013 and the objectives that lie ahead to position the city for success moving forward. In advance of his expected departure this fall, Orr will give insight into the short and long-term vision for Detroit’s sustained growth, as well as the blueprint it provides for municipalities around the nation facing similar challenges.

Orr joins a growing lineup of impactful Conference speakers that includes:

MICHauto to Hold T-Shirt Photo Contest as Part of SAE International’s JetToy Competition

The Chamber’s MICHauto program is holding a t-shirt photo contest for elementary school students and teachers that participated in SAE International’s eighth annual International JetToy Competition on Wednesday, April 9. The contest will run from April 14-18, with the winner being announced on April 23.

MICHauto provided over 500 elementary students and teachers “Michigan is Auto” t-shirts as a fun way to increase awareness of the automotive field. Classes will tweet photos of themselves wearing the t-shirts using the hashtag #MichiganIsAuto. The class that is selected as the winner will receive a $500 Office Depot gift card.

Student design teams constructed JetToy cars, made of materials such as a chassis, straw, balloon, tape and wheels, and competed in distance, accuracy, weight carrying and timed events. For more information on the competition, click here.

MICHauto Aims to Drive Intelligent Mobility in Michigan, Hosting Event on April 30

MICHauto is hosting the event Driving Intelligent Mobility in Michigan on Wednesday, April 30 to highlight Michigan’s role as a leader in the development and marketing of intelligent transportation technology. The event will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit.

Industry experts Masa Hasegawa, principal at Deloitte Consulting; Bill Kohler, partner at Clark Hill; and Doug Patton, senior vice president of engineering at DENSO International America, will analyze intelligent mobility and projects its evolution into the mainstream consumer marketplace, review potential roadblocks and discuss Michigan’s role as the industry’s innovative leader.
