Aug. 12: Gov. Snyder to Deliver Keynote Address on Michigan’s Mobility Future at MICHauto Summit

Gov. Snyder to Deliver Keynote Address on Michigan’s Mobility Future at MICHauto Summit

Gov. Rick Snyder will share his strategic vision for Michigan’s future as the global center for next-generation research and development during a keynote address at the 2015 MICHauto Summit set for Sept. 30 at Cobo Center in Detroit. Building off the theme, “The Connected Culture: Shaping Michigan’s Automotive Future,” the Summit will focus on Michigan as the center for advanced mobility and its need for a robust talent pipeline driven by a relentless culture of innovation.

Earlier this month, Snyder announced the “We Run on Brainpower” campaign at the Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City, which MICHauto attended for the fourth straight year to promote the importance of Michigan’s automotive industry. The campaign is designed to promote the exciting jobs in high tech automotive innovation through a series of videos highlighting young engineers at Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and Visteon.

MICHauto has worked to raise awareness about the perception gap, particularly among young talent, and its impact on the automotive industry. At the 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference, MICHauto released its Career Perception Survey, which found that only 41 percent of influencers, including parents, were likely to recommend a career in the industry. The study continues to be cited in numerous media reports, demonstrating the importance of challenging misperceptions about the industry in bolstering Michigan’s talent pipeline as the state competes nationally and internationally.
