August 5, 2013: Chamber Mourns Passing of Manufacturing Pillar Richard Dauch; Detroit Primary Election Today

Detroit Regional Chamber Mourns Passing of Manufacturing Pillar Richard Dauch

Michigan lost an important leader and one of the manufacturing industry’s greatest advocates last week with the passing of Richard E. Dauch, the executive chairman and co-founder of American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings, Inc. Dauch, a past chairman of the Detroit Regional Chamber, was an outspoken advocate and a tireless campaigner at a time when few wanted to acknowledge the importance and potential of American manufacturing.

Dauch is responsible for reinventing and reinvigorating American Axle and led the company through one of the most turbulent periods in U.S. economic history. His advocacy for the industry resulted in a sharper focus on the manufacturing sector and a renewed commitment to the competitiveness of the region’s automotive industry within the Chamber. In 2002, Dauch was also recognized by the Chamber as World Trader of the Year. To read more about Dauch’s life and legacy in Crain’s Detroit Businessclick here.
