Bob Bury

Executive Director and CEO, Detroit Historical Society

Bob Bury is the executive director and CEO of the Detroit Historical Society and is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management and operations of the Detroit Historical Museum, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle, and the Collections Resource Center – which houses the city’s collection of more than 250,000 historic artifacts.

Under Bury’s leadership, the Detroit Historical Society successfully completed a $21.2 million comprehensive campaign resulting in enhanced exhibits and educational programming, improved accessibility of the Society’s extensive collection of artifacts, and advanced the organization’s long-term sustainability. Recently, the Society and its diverse partners launched “Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward.” The project includes “Detroit 67: Perspectives,” an award-winning exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum, an expansive digital archive of oral histories and ongoing regional community programming.

Bury serves on the boards of Midtown Detroit Inc., CultureSource, the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Education, and the Grosse Pointe Rotary Foundation.
