Central Kitchen +Bar

Q: How has your business been impacted by COVID-19?
A: Central Kitchen + Bar temporarily closed our doors on March 16, 2020, when Governor Whitmer instituted the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order.  Central ownership decided not to offer carry-out or delivery service to ensure the safety of the staff, so they could be available to take care of their families.  We moved quickly and efficiently to shore up our expenses and minimize financial risk. We are grateful to have amazing partners, like Bedrock, who have offered free rent during this complex time. The biggest impact we have encountered thus far was to the core of our restaurant, which is our staff. It has been hard on them both financially and emotionally.  Central Kitchen + Bar truly is a close-knit family and we look forward to turning the lights back on soon.

Q: How are you engaging your employees and customers to remain safe through COVID-19?
A: First and foremost, ownership and leadership have been in contact with employees daily, checking on them and their respective families.  Chef Christina provided food supplies and extra perishables from the restaurant to the employees. In addition, Central has provided resources regarding the stimulus stipend, unemployment benefits, and tips to stay safe during COVID-19.

We have been utilizing our social media platforms to stay engaged with our customers. We are sharing recipes with the customers of our favorite Central dishes and cocktails. We have joined the City of Detroit “Feed the Front Lines” initiative, by providing meals to those who are working on the front lines during this pandemic.  We are very grateful for them and happy we are able to serve those on the front lines who are keeping us all safe.

Q: How can the community support locally-owned restaurants during this time?     A: The best way to support locally-owned restaurants is to stay at home! The faster we beat this virus, the sooner we are able to re-open. We have also partnered with Populace Coffee who are selling bags of coffee that will directly help our employees during this unprecedented time.  50% of each purchased bag will go directly to Central Kitchen + Bar staff.  To purchase a bag please go to CK+B_Populace Coffee.
