Chamber CEO on the Defeat of Prop. 1

DETROIT, May 5, 2015 – Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s President and CEO Sandy Baruah released the following statement after voters rejected Proposal 1:

“It’s time for the Legislature to do its job, and create a plan that properly invests in roads through a user-fee based system. Our legislators need to be candid with their constituents – a fix for Michigan’s roads must include increased revenue. As roads further deteriorate they will require more extensive repairs and every day lawmakers delay taking action actually increases the cost to taxpayers. It won’t be a popular conversation, but our legislators were elected to make difficult decisions. Functioning, safe roads are not luxury items. Investors and job-creators require them and so does Michigan’s economic future.”
