Chamber CEO Statement on Peters’ Election to Senate

DETROIT, November 4, 2014: Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s President and CEO Sandy K. Baruah released the following statement on Congressman Gary Peters’ election to the U.S. Senate:

“Gary Peters was the preferred candidate of the Chamber’s Political Action Committee – as he was of both the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News. We believe that Gary Peters will be a substantive, thoughtful and effective leader for Michigan in the United States Senate – especially on critical issues such as the New International Trade Crossing and responsible immigration reform.

This race could have been much closer had former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land ran a better campaign. While she had a strong record of effective public service, she did not present herself well to voters – which led to victory for Congressman Peters.”

The Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC) endorsed Congressman Peters (D-Bloomfield Twp.). With a long-standing record of supporting candidates on both sides of the aisle who support a pro-growth agenda, the Chamber’s PAC endorsement remains one of the most sought-after endorsements in Michigan politics.
