Chamber Testifies in Support of Ballast Water Standards

On Monday, the Detroit Regional Chamber testified at a Senate Natural Resources, Environment and Great Lakes Committee hearing held at the Detroit Wayne County Port Authority in support of Senate Bill 266. SB 266, sponsored by Senator Mike Green (R-Mayville), would allow Michigan to accept the nationally used and accepted ballast water standards put in place by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Michigan’s ports are a vital transportation asset that enable Michigan businesses to have access to world markets and SB266 would level the playing field and encourage business and jobs to come back to Michigan while still protecting the Great Lakes.
