David Behen

David BehenAs the state’s chief information officer (CIO), David B. Behen plays a critical role in leading development of information technology resources to meet the growing needs of Michigan’s citizens.

In his role as CIO, Behen holds a seat on Governor Rick Snyder’s Cabinet, advising the governor on technology investments and implementing innovative IT programs to enhance and expand customer service. As an executive in the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), he leads efforts to provide the full range of information technology and communications services to Michigan’s citizens and businesses as well as 17 state agencies with 47,000 state employees.

Government Technology magazine named Behen and the Governor to its top-25 list of IT doers, dreamers and drivers for 2013. In 2012, Behen was chosen as the first winner of Crain’s Detroit Business CIO Awards in the government category. He holds a number of board positions in professional and technology organizations. He chairs the governing body for the Detroit CIO Executive Summit and co-chairs the NASCIO State and Local Collaboration Committee.

His commitment to public service extends beyond his job. He served on the board of directors for United Way of Washtenaw County and is a board member and mentor for the We Build Character workforce mentoring organization.
