Detroit Regional Chamber Announces Ramesh “Ray” Telang as the 2018 Mackinac Policy Conference Chair

MACKINAC ISLAND, June 1, 2017 – Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber announced PwC Greater Michigan Market Managing Partner and U.S. Automotive Leader Ramesh “Ray” Telang as Chair of the 2018 Mackinac Policy Conference. Highgate LLC President and CEO and 2017 Conference Chair Stephen Polk made the announcement from the main stage.

“Ray’s leadership is invaluable to the Chamber; his perspective on global and national economic trends will ensure the Conference tackles issues critical to Michigan’s competitiveness,” said Chamber President and CEO Sandy Baruah. “The state and region are primed for business investment and job growth thanks to our talent and world-class assets and Ray’s insight will offer a fresh approach to continue Michigan’s long-term prosperity.”

A longstanding leader for the Chamber, Telang has served on the Chamber’s Finance and Audit Committee since 2004, where he provides guidance to fiscal operations. He joined the Chamber’s Board of Directors in 2012 and the Executive Committee in 2013. Over the past year he has also provided insight to the Chamber and its CEO Advisory Group on successful regional economic development strategies throughout the country.

Telang has more than 25 years of experience in auditing, business risk management and internal control consulting at PwC. He has successfully helped his clients resolve difficult accounting and auditing issues and has provided assistance in identifying internal control improvement recommendations.

Under Telang’s leadership, PwC recently provided consulting resources to Gov. Snyder’s 21st Century Economy Commission, which was chaired by Baruah. The Commission’s final report was released yesterday at the Conference.

“As Chair of the 2018 Mackinac Policy Conference, I am proud to be part of Michigan’s signature meeting of business and government leaders.” Telang said. “The four days spent on the island engaged in thought-provoking discussions offer a platform to shape Michigan’s future and keep our state at the top of the list for economic investment for years to come.”

Planning for the 2018 Conference will begin in the summer. Telang and Chamber leadership will develop pillars and the agenda for next year’s event, which will be held from Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 1.

The Mackinac Policy Conference – the Chamber’s annual event – brings together business and government leaders to re-energize Michigan. Since 1981, the Conference has provided access to Michigan’s top business professionals, legislative leaders, corporate CEOs, entrepreneurs and veteran regional champions. More than 1,700 attendees will attend the 2017 Conference, held from May 30 – June 2 at the historic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
