Detroit Regional Chamber CEO on Wayne County Financial Status

DETROIT, February 5, 2015: Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s President and CEO Sandy Baruah released the following statement on County Executive Warren Evan’s announcement on financial state of Wayne County:

“Like Detroit, Wayne County is critical to the regional economy. The underlying lesson from Detroit’s fiscal crisis was that inaction only makes the problem worse.  Wayne County’s finances are clearly on an unsustainable path. County Executive Evans is taking the first steps to right the county’s fiscal ship and assess the true depth of the problem. He understands that addressing the financial challenges is going to include many tough and politically unpopular decisions that must be made in the best long-term interests of the county.”
