Sharing the story of opportunity and progress in Detroit with the rest of the nation and world has never been more important to attracting jobs, investment and talent to Southeast Michigan. The Detroit Regional Chamber’s efforts in promoting Detroit’s comeback grabbed top honors at the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives’ (ACCE) Annual Meeting in Montreal this week, earning a “Grand Award” and “Best in Show” for its 2014 Detroit Policy Conference video.

Bringing to life the illustrated cover of the September/October 2013 Detroiter magazine, the video featured many of the key leaders and organizations driving Detroit’s transformation underway as it navigated bankruptcy. Like the magazine, the video was created following the city’s bankruptcy filing and communicates a positive story about Detroit’s “next chapter,” including interviews with change-makers such as Ponyride’s Phil Cooley, Detroit Police Chief James Craig, Mayor Mike Duggan, Quicken Loans’ Dan Gilbert and Midtown Detroit’s Sue Mosey, all of whom appeared on the magazine’s cover.

The project reflects the collective work and collaboration of the Chamber’s Creative Advisory and Detroit Policy Conference teams, as well as Chamber members — ONE Brand Studio, who produced the video, and Skidmore Studio, who designed the Detroiter cover. Each year the ACCE organization recognizes excellence in marketing and communications at its annual convention as hundreds of chambers across the country have the opportunity to submit work related to marketing, communications, publications, etc. to the Awards for Communication Excellence competition.

Since the 2014 Conference, the video has been integrated into a presentation on the change occurring in Detroit delivered by Chamber President and CEO Sandy Baruah at several events throughout the country.
