Education Partners Gather for Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative Summer Conference

August 2, 2022

The Detroit Regional Chamber’s Detroit Drives Degrees Community College Collaborative (D3C3) kicked off a series of summer conferences with an event focused on the initiative’s student success workstream on July 19 and 20. The conference was hosted at Monroe County Community College.

“It was great convening our D3C3 college partners to learn from each other and national experts on student success best practices. Our partners are thinking critically about how to redesign institutional systems in order to reduce barriers that impact student persistence and completion.” Said Stephanie Iovan, director of D3C3.

The National Institute for Student Success (NISS) came from Georgia State University to facilitate workshops and review diagnostic evaluations with the seven D3C3 college partners in attendance. NISS Director Dr. Tim Renick kicked off the day of programming and worked directly with the colleges to review individualized playbooks and implement plans to improve their student success outcomes. Workshops also covered topics like data utilization and redesigning advising models. NISS experts in these student success areas joined the conference to provide additional technical assistance.

This conference is one of the first steps as the D3C3 college partners get underway with their work toward regional talent pipeline transformation in Southeast Michigan. The rigorous pre-implementation series will touch on D3C3’s work streams of student success, K-12 alignment, and employer-led sector pathways.

The community college partners are being funded to implement college-level, systemic-level strategies aligned with D3C3 goals and participate in the D3C3 learning community to develop and implement strategic plans.

Significant investment is being made to support the community colleges and Southeast Michigan community to engage in this transformational work. The Chamber is grateful to its partners, the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation and Ballmer Group, for supporting this work. Learn more about D3C3 at detroitchamber.com/d3/d3c3.
