Join Wellness Works, the Detroit Regional Chamber, and the University of Michigan’s Workplace Mental Health Solutions team for a hands-on session about how employers and HR supervisors can recognize and respond to mental health challenges in the workplace in addition to applying the strategies learned in real-life situations in a two-part training session on Feb. 27, 2025.
Both training sessions are hosted by Dr. Michelle Kees, Associate Psychiatry Professor at the University of Michigan, to help teams better understand mental health challenges in their workplace.
Session One: 9 a.m. to Noon
This introductory workshop focuses on equipping HR professionals and supervisors with essential tools and knowledge to effectively recognize and respond to mental health challenges in the workplace. Participants will learn about common mental health issues affecting employees, including stress, anxiety, and depression, and the importance of fostering a supportive environment. The session will provide practical strategies for identifying early signs of mental health struggles, as well as guidance on how to approach and support employees who may be facing these challenges.
Session Two: 1 – 4 P.M.
Designed for those who have completed the Introductory Session earlier in the day or in March 2024, this session dives deeper into more complex mental health issues and equips participants with advanced tools for managing challenging situations.
Through activities, participants will have the opportunity to practice navigating sensitive conversations, developing customized action plans, and applying de-escalation techniques. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped to handle mental health challenges proactively, empathetically, and with confidence, fostering a healthier, more supportive environment for all employees.
