Hubbard Farms Neighborhood Association – January 2019 Update

Written by: Betsy Cooper, Volunteer, Clark Park Coalition

The Clark Park Coalition and the Hubbard Farms Neighborhood Association are joining together to host programming at Clark Park this summer.

By using the funds given through the NeighborHUB program, fitness equipment and Clark Park’s iconic amphitheater mosaic will get a facelift. By renovating the beautiful mosaic tile wall and the stage, the Clark Park Amphitheatre will once again be a functioning and welcoming hub for residents to attend concerts, youth performances, and educational and cultural events.

Additionally, neighbors will be able to utilize newly installed fitness equipment in the park, also funded by this grant. Re-installing the outdoor fitness equipment will allow for passive low-impact exercise for residents to work-out at their own pace as well as organized athletic work-out programming to occur within the park. Grant funding will be used to support exercise classes in the park, potentially including yoga, Tai Chi, and Zumba – all popular activities in Southwest Detroit.

Volunteers collected feedback and ideas for programming from Clark Park area residents at the annual autumn BBQ. Ideas ranged from puppet shows to group meditation, as well as musical acts and open mics. Residents are now responding to an online and printed survey, and volunteers are creating a program of events to distribute in the spring.
