InnoState Advanced Manufacturers Spotlight: Clark Engineering

Last month, the Detroit Regional Chamber, the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center and the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership visited Clark Engineering in Owosso as part of the InnoState program. Clark Engineering exemplifies the kind of adaptability needed for 21st century manufacturers with the flexibility to meet variety in design, application and volume. Clark Engineering is an excellent example of a company primed to engage in the InnoState program, which seeks to supplement the region’s traditional parts-making economy with a fast-growing community of firms pursuing a new product contract manufacturing business model.

Clark Engineering specializes in wire forms, but they have the capacity to do a range of end processes that set them apart from traditional manufacturers. The company diversified the industries they supply, winning contracts in high growth sectors like alternative energy and lawn and garden. Based on these strengths, Clark Engineering has grown and expanded since 2008.

InnoState is comprised of regional organizations that will provide a range of support – including technical assistance, access to technology, support for training and opportunities with new customers – to small and medium manufacturers in order to build a sustainable economic cluster of firms.
