John Rakolta III

Business Development Director, Walbridge

Rakolta IIIJohn “J.R.” Rakolta III is business development director for Walbridge, a privately held construction company founded in Detroit in 1916. He also serves on the company’s board of directors.

Rakolta joined the company in 2007 and has experience in sales and field operations. Prior to joining the company, he worked for The Athena Group in New York.

He received a bachelor’s degree in building construction management from Purdue University and a master’s degree in real estate finance and investment from New York University.

Rakolta was appointed by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder in 2013 to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Talent Investment Board. The board, created in 2011, assists and advises the governor regarding compliance with the U.S. Department of Labor Workforce Investment Act and overall talent development in the state.

Rakolta is the third-generation member of the Rakolta family to work for Walbridge. His father, John Rakolta Jr., is chairman and CEO of the company and he succeeded his father, John Rakolta Sr., in those roles in 1993.
