Dr Joneigh Khaldun, MD, MPH, FACEP is the Director and Health Officer for the Detroit Health Department and a practicing emergency physician at Henry Ford Hospital. In just over a year as Director, she’s launched the department’s first ever national accreditation process including a community- driven health assessment; built a comprehensive reproductive health network and campaign that addresses unintended teen pregnancy; implemented a hospital and public health collaboration that addresses social needs of pregnant women; started the department’s opioid overdose prevention initiatives; secured $1.4 million in new city and state dollars to address lead exposure in Detroit; and led the City’s efforts to tackle the largest Hepatitis A outbreak in national history, including vaccination of over 7,000 people.
