July 16, 2013: Chamber PAC Endorses City Council Candidates in Primary; Ripon Forum Showcases Gov. Snyder

Detroit Regional Chamber’s PAC Board Endorses Seven Candidates in 2013 Detroit City Council Primary

Last week, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC) Board of Directors announced the endorsements of seven candidates in the August 6 primary for the Detroit City Council election in November.

“The City Council elections this fall will help set the tone as Detroit moves through one of the most critical periods in its history. Bringing the best possible field to voters is an important investment in Detroit’s future,” said Terence Thomas, chairman, Chamber PAC Board. “We’re proud to endorse these candidates and believe they will work toward the sound public policy that drives growth while bringing about the change this city needs.”

The City Council candidates receiving the Chamber’s PAC endorsement for the primary include James Tate (District 1, Incumbent), Rick Bowers (District 2), Scott Benson (District 3), Andre Spivey (District 4, Incumbent), Adam Hollier (District 5), Vince Keenan (District 6) and Saunteel Jenkins (At-Large, Incumbent). The Chamber’s PAC Board also endorsed former Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan as a write-in candidate for the primary for the Detroit mayoral election in November. The Ripon Forum Showcases Gov. Snyder’s Impact in Michigan

The spring 2013 issue of the Ripon Forum showcased Governor Rick Snyder’s achievements during his term in office and his mantra of “relentless positive action.” The issue takes a look at Gov. Snyder’s business approach to government and his view of government’s role as a vessel for quality customer service. Site Selection Highlights Michigan’s Improved Business Climate

The July issue of Site Selection magazine featured an article titled “State of Reinvention” focused on Michigan’s improved business climate under the leadership of Governor Rick Snyder. The article highlights the shift Michigan has made from a highly taxed, union-dominated state to one that is cutting taxes and regulations and freeing the labor force to be able to better respond to the changing global economy. Life Remodeled to Renovate Detroit Neighborhood in Six Days

Detroit Regional Chamber staff members will be participating in a Life Remodeled event on August 1 during the program’s six-day neighborhood overhaul. More than 5,000 volunteers are expected to come together to transform a Detroit neighborhood, build a brand new house, renovate 24 others, board up at least 150 vacant structures and beautify 48 city blocks.
