Lisa Howze

Former Representative, Michigan House of Representatives

lisa howzeA native Detroiter, Lisa Howze is the youngest of six children raised by a single mother on the city’s west side. Her educational achievements include graduating from Cass Technical High School in 1991 in the top 10 of her senior class. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from the Ross School of Business in 1995, and a Master of Science in finance degree from Walsh College in 2004.

Howze is a certified public accountant with more than 18 years of auditing, municipal accounting, and corporate finance experience. A life-time member and past recipient of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. Walking the Road Less Traveled Award, Howze’s career started in public accounting, evolved into public speaking, and now she is living a life of public service.

The former state representative, who was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2010, says that she is uniquely qualified to meet the fiscal challenges of the city of Detroit as she looks to become the first female mayor in the city’s 311-year history.
