Local Accountants Sleep Out for Homeless Youth

Recently, a group of young ladies from UHY certified public accountants participated in an event for the homeless. Suzanne Al-Jawadi, Diane Burek, Lisa Gjocaj, Hailee Johnson and Sam Siljanovski slept in cardboard boxes in Detroit with temperatures reaching the low 20s. The sacrifice came as part of the Covenant House Michigan Young Professionals Sleep Out, which Burek is a founding board member of.

This year Tony Frabotta, CEO of UHY Advisors matched contributions from a firm sponsored jean day dollar for dollar, in addition to Burek’s own match. Frabotta is a big proponent of giving back in our local community, and heavily supports employee’s civic endeavors. Burek and her team were able to raise nearly $6,000 with the help of Frabotta, and altogether the event raised around $70,000.

“I am always amazed at the spirit of giving exhibited by our staff both monetary and in participation,” Frabotta said. “Especially for Diane, Hailee, Lisa, Sam and Suzanne who endured the cold winter night in support of such a great cause.”
