Mike Brownfield

Director, Communications, Goldwater Institute

Mike Brownfield is director of communications for the Goldwater Institute, a free-market think tank based in Phoenix, Ariz., that advances public policy across the country.

Previously, Brownfield was deputy director of strategy and director of social media for Gov. Rick Snyder, where he vastly expanded the Governor’s use of digital communications, wrote State of the State addresses, and developed policy recommendations for issues including criminal justice reform and economic development.

Brownfield also served as editor of the Heritage Foundation’s public policy blog in Washington, D.C., and developed the Foundation’s social media strategy. He previously worked for U.S. Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R-MI 9), first in his official office and later as campaign manager.

Brownfield is a licensed attorney who earned his juris doctor at Loyola University of Chicago School of Law and a bachelor of science in journalism and political science at Northwestern University.
