Post-Election Summary: Chamber Endorsements See 97.7% Success Rate

The Detroit Regional Chamber PAC again released its list of bipartisan endorsements ahead of the November 2020 general election. The endorsements were made based on responses to a Chamber PAC survey, input from PAC members, and individual interactions. Endorsements were also based on alignment with the Chamber’s legislative policy priorities. The Chamber’s track record of success held strong this year with a 97.7% success rate in the election of its endorsed candidates.

Overall, of 61 endorsements made, 60 won their elections. Of endorsements made for Michigan House of Representatives candidates, 43 of 44 won their elections. Further, all 13 of the Congressional candidates endorsed won their elections.

In terms of key races, Chamber-endorsed Sen. Gary Peters won reelection to the U.S. Senate. Representatives Slotkin, Stevens, and Upton were also reelected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Peter Meijer was also elected to represent Michigan’s 3rd district in Washington. Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter won reelection in a now-solid blue county.

Historically, the Chamber has not and does not make presidential endorsements, and that was true again this year in the race between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.
