Prof. David Dieterle’s Work Receives National Recognition

Walsh faculty member David A. Dieterle, Ph.D.’s recently completed work Economics: The Definitive Encyclopedia from Theory to Practice has been named one of Booklist’s Top 10 Reference Books of 2018. Booklist is published by the American Library Association and is renowned for providing the most reliable reviews of reference materials for libraries. Dieterle’s work was published by ABC-CLIO, LLC.

The four-volume work took four years to complete. “It was a labor of love,” said Dieterle, “I couldn’t take more than two days off or it would be too difficult to pick up where I was in the process.”

Economics: The Definitive Encyclopedia from Theory to Practice had nearly 200 contributors, including Walsh faculty member John Moore, Ph.D., CPA and two Walsh graduate students. “My name is on it, but without the contributors and editors from ABC-CLIO, it never would have happened. It truly was a team effort,” said Dieterle.

Dr. Dieterle is a Professor in the Finance & Economics Department at Walsh. He has written, edited and contributed to numerous articles and reference books including Economic Thinkers, A Biographical Encyclopedia in 2013 and co-edited Government and the Economy: An Encyclopedia in 2014, both also published by ABC-CLIO. Dieterle has consulted for the Michigan, Illinois and Nebraska departments of education and presented to the Zambian Ministry of Education and the Malawi Ministry of Education, proposing a national curriculum including economic and entrepreneurship education in both countries.
