Proposal 1 Passes as Michigan’s Reinvention Continues, Chamber Thanks Members for Support

The Detroit Regional Chamber thanks its membership, affiliates, and supporters, including Michigan Citizens for Strong and Safe Communities, for their support of Proposal 1. In a major win for businesses and communities, voters across Michigan approved the Proposal 69% to 31%, eliminating the state’s unfair Personal Property Tax. The vote ensures that businesses will no longer have to pay the double tax on equipment and that vital city services will remain strong.

Proposal 1 is a crucial step in the state’s continued reinvention and solidifies Michigan’s rising profile as a magnet for investment under Governor Rick Snyder’s leadership. Its passage is estimated to create an additional 15,000 jobs and generate $450 million in investment.

The Chamber was a staunch advocate for Proposal 1 and made achieving a “Yes” vote part of the 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference To-Do List . As part of these efforts, the Chamber launched an aggressive communications campaign including media appearances and guest columns, a toolkit distributed to membership and a volunteer phone bank led by staff.
