Record Turnout for the Detroit Scholarship Fund Summer Ceremony

In a record turnout, more than 300 families celebrated their students’ commitment to continue their education at a summer ceremony hosted by the Detroit Scholarship Fund (DSF) at the Michigan Science Center. The city-wide ceremony provided students from every corner of Detroit the opportunity to reconnect with DSF staff, meet colleges from all over Michigan, and have an in-depth discussion with their future alma maters to help position them to meet the challenges of post-secondary education.

The students and their supporters received a warm welcome from Michigan Science Center Director Tonya Matthews, followed by a keynote speech from New Paradigm for Education CEO Ralph Bland. Bland delivered a message of perseverance and the limitless capabilities of all students.

The Chamber continues to administer the DSF on behalf of Governor Rick Snyder to ensure that any Detroit-resident student graduating from a high school in the city of Detroit will have a tuition-free path to an associate’s degree or technical certificate. For more information, please visit
