Richard Gilfillan, M.D.

Gilfillan, Rick-editRichard Gilfillan is president and CEO of Trinity Health, a $13-billion Catholic health system that serves communities in 20 states with 86 hospitals and 109 continuing care facilities and home health and hospice programs.

Gilfillan has been a leader in U.S. health care for more than 25 years, building successful organizations in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. As the first director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI), he launched the Center in 2010 and worked with customers and providers to develop innovative models for improving patient care and reducing costs.

Prior to joining CMMI, Gilfillan was president and CEO of Geisinger Health Plan and executive vice president of insurance operations for Geisinger Health System. Previously, he served as senior vice president for national network management at Bethesda, Md.-based Coventry Health Care. He earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees from Georgetown University.
