Ronald McDonald House of Detroit Rides the Waves of Detroit’s Revival by Hosting its 10th Annual Winter Holiday Tea in the City

The 10th Annual Winter Holiday Tea – a  fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit – will be Dec. 2, from noon to 2 p.m., at the Detroit Marriott Downtown, 400 Renaissance Center. All are welcome. Guests will enjoy a trendy tea with appetizers and desserts, a flowing fashion show for women of all ages, and entertainment by international jazz recording artist Kimmie Horne and her trio.

News anchors Tati Amare, of WDIV-Channel 4, and Stephen Clark, of WXYZ-Channel 7, will co-emcee this popular holiday event, which previously was held in the suburbs.

“Holding the event in Detroit this year reflects the positive energy of the city as more young people come downtown and live downtown,” said event chair and board member Charlene Mitchell-Rodgers, of West Bloomfield. “We want to see a diverse crowd attend the tea, along with longtime supporters.”

Elite Couture Boutique in Midtown Detroit will host a fashion show during the tea, featuring both classic and trendy styles. There also will be a silent auction.

“This holiday tea raises funds to keep families close when a child is in the hospital and the parents are spending long days and nights there. Our House becomes their home so they can rest here and still be there for their child,” said Jennifer Litomisky, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit.

Mitchell-Rodgers noted, “The House offers so much to families  – not only a room to stay in, but the support of the staff and other parents going through similar difficulties. People need kindness when their child is ill, along with a place to rest and a good meal. They get that at the House.”

For families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House of Detroit, a $10 daily fee is charged for a guest room and use of common areas including a kitchen, laundry room, gathering space, playroom and serenity garden. No family is turned away due to a lack of funds. The House has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator and has been a finalist in Crain’s Detroit Business Best Run Nonprofits for several years.
