September 22: September Detroiter Focusing on Entrepreneurs Available Now; Gov. Snyder Launches Town Hall Tour in Re-Election Bid

September Detroiter Focusing on Entrepreneurs Available Now

The September 2014 issue of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Detroiter magazine hits newsstands this week, featuring Andra Rush, founder and CEO of Rush Trucking Corp., on the cover.

This edition focuses on the Detroit region’s idealistic business leaders who know what it takes to recognize untapped opportunities and grow their vision into successful companies. These entrepreneurs are what bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell termed “disagreeables” at the Detroit Regional Chamber’s 2014 Mackinac Policy Conference.

Drawing on three key lessons, Gladwell noted that being disagreeable is an inherent characteristic that lets innovators pursue breakthrough ideas even when faced with objections and derision. Watch your mailbox for the newest edition or click here to read select stories online.

Gov. Snyder Launches Town Hall Tour in Re-Election Bid

Gov. Rick Snyder will kick-off a series of town hall-style meetings to promote Michigan’s economic growth on Sept. 29 in Kalamazoo. The “Road to Recovery” tour is part of the Governor’s re-election campaign and will feature stops in Sterling Heights on Oct. 2 and Detroit on Oct. 4.

Under the Governor’s visionary leadership, Michigan has led the nation in manufacturing job growth, including the creation of 200,000 private sector jobs. In addition, the Governor has been a chief proponent of Detroit’s resurgence with the passage of the grand bargain legislation in June.

The Detroit Chamber was the only major business organization to endorse the Governor in the 2010 primary election and is proud to support his re-election campaign. Additional details and locations of the Governor’s tour will be announced in coming weeks.

Candidate Spotlight: Sen. Mike Kowall (R-White Lake)

The Detroit Regional Chamber is proud to endorse state Sen. Mike Kowall (R-White Lake) in his re-election bid for Michigan’s 15th Senate District. Kowall continues to embody the character and passion that is required of a public servant in the state capitol.

As chairman of the Economic Development Committee, Kowall oversaw the passage of numerous bills that promote a strong economic foundation. His devotion to innovative solutions for Southeast Michigan was evident in January when he conducted hearings across the region, most notably listening to testimony from automotive leaders during a joint legislative meeting at the North American International Auto Show.

The Chamber looks forward to collaborating with Kowall to find creative solutions on issues ranging from skilled trades training to the ability to match our current and emerging workforce with opportunities and an enhanced urban environment.
