Detroit — The architects of the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr and Gov. Rick Snyder, will speak during the Mackinac Policy Conference next month.

Orr will talk about his work restructuring Detroit’s finances and “what is needed to position the city for success moving forward,” the Detroit Regional Chamber announced Friday.

“Michigan ultimately goes as Detroit goes, and that’s a reality that leaders across Michigan need to embrace,” said Henry Cooney, conference chairman and CEO/president of law firm Plunkett Cooney. “Detroit’s emergence from bankruptcy is critically important to Michigan’s future. Kevyn Orr’s perspective on how to put Detroit on a sustainable path must be central to this statewide discussion about Michigan’s global competitiveness.”

The speaker roster also includes Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

The conference is focused on creating a more globally competitive and financially attractive business environment in the state
