Tom Kurimura Joins Plante Moran’s Japanese Business Services Practice

Southfield, Mich., March 17, 2015 – Plante Moran, one of the nation’s largest public accounting and business advisory firms, is pleased to announce that Tom Kurimura, CPA, has joined the firm as a partner in its Japanese business services practice.

Kurimura specializes in providing audit and business consulting services to Japanese companies in a variety of industries, including automotive, manufacturing, consumer and industrial electronics, and trading.

Prior to joining Plante Moran, Kurimura served as a partner in charge of the Midwest area at Hotta Liesenberg Saito LLP, assisting Japanese clients in the manufacturing industry with audit and consulting services related to internal controls, performance improvement, and financial analysis to aid management with critical decisions.

Kurimura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Coe College and a Master of Arts in international economics and finance from Brandeis University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is fluent in Japanese.

Grant Thornton LLP Welcomes Two New Employees in Detroit

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 15, 2012 — Grant Thornton LLP’s Detroit office is pleased to welcome a new audit associate as well as a new senior audit associate from its member firm in the Philippines as the company continues to grow its Michigan tax, audit and advisory practice.

Alexis Carlo G. Magsumbol, 25, has joined Grant Thornton as an audit senior associate. He is in Detroit from the Philippines as part of Grant Thornton’s secondment, or exchange, program. Magsumbol previously worked for four years as an audit senior associate at Punongbayan and Araullo, a member firm of Grant Thornton. Magsumbol has his bachelor’s degree in accounting from San Beda College in the Philippines.

Lacie Melasi, 23, of Ferndale, Mich., has joined Grant Thornton as an audit associate. She previously worked at PwC in Detroit as an auditor for internal controls. Melasi has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in information technology from Oakland University.
