Walsh Launches Brand New Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs

TROY, Mich., April 29, 2019 — Walsh is introducing two new degree programs for the fall 2019 semester, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Management (BSAM) and a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL). The MSOL provides a deep exploration of leadership from a variety of perspectives and is expected to draw students from a wide range of professional backgrounds and industries. Both the BSAM and the MSOL can be completed entirely online or as a hybrid program blending online and on-ground instruction at Walsh’s Troy location.

“We worked closely with our industry advisors to develop the Bachelor of Science in Applied Management and Master of Science in Organizational Leadership,” said Michael Rinkus, executive vice president and chief academic officer at Walsh. “More than 85% of Walsh alumni are living and working in Michigan. Walsh College Professor Reflects on Fulbright Experience

James McHann, Ph.D., Professor of Strategy and Management at Walsh College recently served as a Fulbright Scholar at Berhampur University in India.

Dr. McHann gave a series of lectures and seminars to Masters of Business Administration and doctorate students and faculty in the College of Commerce and Management Sciences at Berhampur.

Dr. McHann is one of a select group of U.S. faculty and professionals who are Fulbright Scholars, and is one of four such scholars from Walsh College. The Fulbright Program, America’s flagship international educational exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Recipients of Fulbright Scholar awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement.

“I found the business students at Berhampur to be intelligent, exceptionally well-prepared in mathematical and analytical skills, driven, deeply respectful, and eager to learn,” said McHann, who has taught in the Management Department at Walsh since 2007.

His lectures at Berhampur University focused on a new approach to strategic management that builds human capital, while increasing the organization’s capacity to produce products and services efficiently, concurrently learning, adapting, and continually reinventing itself.

“The global perspective of students and faculty at Berhampur impressed me,” said McHann. “They clearly understood the increasing velocity of change and the need for successful organizations to cultivate new ways to use all their employees’ skills to keep up. The students seemed to enjoy the student-centered pedagogy we employed and the open, frank discussions we stimulated.”

Dr. McHann represented the U.S. and Walsh College through various contacts with the academic and business community in India, including talks given at other institutions, such as the University of Calcutta.

He has made a return visit to India, speaking at additional universities, meeting with government officials in Hyderabad on human capital development projects, and consulting with a leading non-governmental organization (NGO) that provides low-cost solar lights to poor, off-grid villages.

Dr. McHann has worked as a management consultant and served as the president of two institutions of higher education. In 2011, he served as a Visiting Scholar in the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
