(Sterling Heights) . . . Todd Piersol, Executive Vice President, is pleased to announce that Brown & Brown of Detroit has named Joe Buick Vice President of Business Development for the agency.

In this role, effective January 1, 2021, Buick’s primary role will be to develop new business opportunities across all divisions of the agency. He will work closely with all agency stakeholders including Brown & Brown leadership, the sales team, new producers, customer service, and insurance carrier representatives. He will also assist local leadership in their personnel recruitment efforts.

Buick will draw upon his 25 years of insurance experience working for brokers around the world. His insurance and risk management specialties include multi-state manufacturing, wholesale distribution, environmental, aviation, workers compensation, and international business.

Regarding Buick’s new role with the agency, Piersol stated, “Joe’s character, core values, and broad spectrum of insurance knowledge will help us drive our value proposition across Michigan. We are very excited that he has agreed to help lead our team to new heights.”

Buick holds both his property and casualty licenses as well as life and health. He is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and a Certified Risk Manager (CRM). He proudly supports the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation and is an active member of Financial Executives International’s Detroit chapter. He is a graduate of Hillsdale College and lives in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan with his wife Rebecca.

Robert Michalak, Promoted to SVP Business Development, Venteon Holdings LLC

Troy based Venteon Venteon is pleased to announce that Bob Michalak has been promoted to Senior Vice President – Business Development at Venteon. In his new position Bob will be responsible for working with clients on Business Development activities.

Venteon is a professional services search, staffing, and consulting firm with three primary divisions: Venteon Finance, Venteon Technical, and Venteon Partners. Prior to assuming his current role, Mr. Michalak spent 14 years building Venteon Finance’s Search Practice, where he was responsible for overseeing the direct placement of all accounting, finance, tax, and treasury professionals. This included all new business development, candidate recruiting, staff development, training, and existing account management. In addition to the above responsibilities, Mr. Michalak was responsible for running an active desk and has been Venteon’s top producer since joining the organization.

Mr. Michalak began his career in accounting, working for Plante & Moran, one of the largest regional public accounting firms in the country, where he earned his CPA. After four years in public accounting, Mr. Michalak spent four years at a national recruiting firm, where he earned “Rookie of the Year” honors and was the top producer two years in a row. Mr. Michalak then left recruiting to take on a business development role with Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and strategic advisor. Upon leaving Marsh he joined Venteon.

Mr. Michalak received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Oakland University, which he attended on a baseball scholarship. Mr. Michalak is a Certified Public Accountant.

Rehmann names Lisa Newland principal

TROY, Mich., February 18, 2019 – Rehmann has promoted Lisa Newland, CPA, CFE to principal in the firm’s Jackson, Michigan office. As an integral member of Rehmann’s Financial Institutions Group, Newland provides taxation support to bank clients across the firm.

Since joining Rehmann in 1997, Newland has provided audit, tax, financial reporting, internal audit, litigation support, forensic accounting and other consulting services to clients in varying industries. Due to her comprehensive experience in corporate taxation, she is considered a firm-wide authority for ASC Topic 740 and financial institution taxation.

In addition to her certified public accounting experience, Newland has served as the controller of a mid-Michigan community financial institution.

Newland is a member of Rehmann’s litigation support team and has provided litigation support and forensic accounting services on a broad range of matters. She has specific experience in witness preparation, technical writing and trial preparation. She has also served as a litigation consultant for a large accountant malpractice matter.

Newland received her bachelor’s degree in economics and management from Albion College and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners and Community Bankers of Michigan.

Rehmann names Amanda Nellis principal

TROY, Mich., February 18, 2019 – Rehmann has promoted Amanda M. Nellis, CPA to principal in the firm’s Ann Arbor, Michigan office. Nellis primarily provides tax planning and compliance services for high net-worth individuals and closely held, private companies.

Nellis began her public accounting career in 2005 at Deloitte Tax, LLP. She spent three years in the tax department of a large Detroit-based family office before joining Rehmann in 2013.

Nellis provides tax services to flow-through entities in various industries, including manufacturing, rental real estate and investments. She is knowledgeable in individual, fiduciary, estate and gift taxation. She works closely with and advises various family offices in the metropolitan Detroit area, and often acts in a similar capacity for other high net-worth families who are not served by such an organization.
